Okay, so there are events where everyone brings their own meat to grill?  I haven’t
heard of this being done and it sounds like so much fun!

Then it turns into… what?  Like a huge community picnic with everyone grilling their
own food?

I’ve been to BBQs where you brought your own meat. It’s been a while, but I guess you’d pay pretty close attention to how your piece was cooked.

I guess it’s more cost effective for the people hosting the event, and if someone really doesn’t feel like a steak, then they can have a beef wiener or something lighter like that.

It sounds like a good idea… and yes, I really like to have a little control over how meat is done.
Luckily the BBQs I attend mostly have people who can’t stand red left in the meat any more than
I can, so I’ve been lucky.  And there’s nothing worse at a BBQ than biting into a burger that’s still
pink inside.  At least that’s my opinion.  grin

When we were young and rowdy, BYOB meant “bring your own bottle”, as in alcohol.
Now when we attend a cook-out with our meat eating friends, we BYOVB”...bring your own veggie burger!

lol heretoday!

sounds like a strange idea to me.. if i told my friends to bring their own meat.. they probably wouldn’t come! If you are going to take your meat to someone else’s bbq… why not just cook it at home?

My father did pretty good grilling steaks, but his hamburgers were awful! They’d be charred on the outside and pink and COLD on the inside, every time! This was back in the day when I ate meat, and so did my Hubbers, who was my boyfriend at the time. He was invited to a BBQ at our house and my father grilled him a burger that turned out pink and cold. Manfully, Hubbers ate it up, even though I knew he was revolted! If I needed any more proof of his devotion, that would have been it.

grin  Well you’re right… a true sign of devotion!  I’ve seen burgers like that but luckily my daddy does them just
right and I love going there to eat when they’re grilling.  I guess that’s from the heat being too hot and the
burger getting done too fast on the outside?

I’m not sure I could even imagine a life without burgers.  grin  I like them with
meat, but I even tried boca a few weeks ago.  I won’t be making a habit of it grin
BUT even that would work in a pinch if I couldn’t have a regular burger.
NEED burgers!  hehe

My dad’s REAL specialty is cheese omelets. They’re quite good. His steaks were good, but that was coz mom was always calling out the back window, “Have you turned the steaks over yet?” She couldn’t really micro-manage the burgers; that’s why they were such a fright!.

My wife claims that she grew up thinking that all barbecued food was black, because that’s the way her mother made it.

I’ve done my share of over-cooking in the oven, but I usually don’t burn food on the barbecue.

In burgers?  I assume just beef patties…. or did you mean hot dogs?  If that’s the case, yes, I do know
what they put in there, and that’s why I’ve started buying Hebrew National.  grin

:-D   Well I’ve seen some like that…. black… but I’ll have to say that I’d prefer that to having a pink
middle in a burger and fearing gagging.  Ick!    With the black burned ones, I’d only have to fear
breaking a tooth.  hehe
